Role: Director of Talent and Client Success, aNd Logistix Years in Industry: 10 Tell us about your role. In addition to managing client accounts, I work closely with the team to improve and implement strategic plans that maintain our high service standards, increase productivity and maximize client satisfaction. What led you to where you are today? I went to college for baking and pastry arts. One day, while volunteering in a kitchen for a charity event, I noticed a woman with a clipboard. I observed her everywhere—talking to those loading in, coordinating with the entertainment and supporting people setting up displays. She fascinated me more than the pastry chef teaching us how to plate the dessert. That’s when I realized where my future lay. I completed my studies in baking and pastry arts while continuing to volunteer at events. I secured a job shortly after graduating and have been with aNd ever since. What accomplishment are you most proud of? Being recognized as PCMA Canada East’s 2023 Inspirational Planner of the Year. This honour was incredibly humbling, as it made me realize that my efforts have positively impacted fellow industry leaders. As a passionate individual, I always strive to take pride in my work, which sometimes leads me to be a bit hard on myself. This recognition truly touched my heart. What’s your favourite part of your work? I love the challenge of pushing the limits of what is achievable and continuously evolving to meet new challenges and opportunities. The dynamic nature of the event industry keeps me engaged and inspired, and I find great satisfaction in seeing the positive impact our events have on clients and attendees. What has been your proudest work- related moment? I’d have to say my involvement in aNd’s Intern and Learn program, which allows me to mentor and guide the next generation of event professionals. Their fresh perspectives and innovative ideas continually inspire me and contribute to my own professional growth. What drives you? I’ve always had high expectations for myself, a trait I inherited from my dad. This year, I’ve adopted the slogan “Knowledge is Power, Empowerment is Key.” Understanding the “why” and “how” behind our actions is critical to driving change and becoming part of the evolution. What are the biggest challenges facing the event industry? Work-life balance and adapting to change. We need to come together as an industry to find solutions that allow us to maintain our high standards while also having the time to disconnect from work and technology. I admire the Ignite Worth It campaign for encouraging the necessary discussions to drive this change and help our industry evolve. We should change the mindset from “what should be done” to “how can it be done.” By using the lessons learned and exploring other ideas, we can innovate and improve, ensuring that we remain relevant and forward-thinking. What might your colleagues be surprised to learn about you? I love spending time outdoors, whether it’s travelling, hiking or camping. My husband, Phillip, often pushes me out of my comfort zone by booking spontaneous trips. It’s essential to explore new things and step outside your usual boundaries.
