Here’s a sampling of the city’s extraordinary options for elevated gatherings. A state-of-the-art, LEED Gold certified facility at the Nova Centre in the city’s core, close to more than 5,000 hotel rooms, Halifax Convention Centre (HCC) lays the founda- tion for world-class conferences, trade shows and meetings. This versatile event space spans more than 120,000 sq. ft. and includes a 30,000-sq.-ft. column-free ballroom with stunning views through floor-to-ceiling windows, 50,000 sq. ft. of multi-purpose convention space and an expansive, light-filled atrium. The iconic Halifax Citadel National Historic Site is a British fortification dating back to 1856. Special exhibits, tours and live re-enactments—including a cannon firing daily at noon—tells the story of Halifax’s rich military history. A former barracks with vaulted ceilings that can hold receptions for 240 guests is one of several charming indoor venues, and up to 2,500 can be hosted outdoors on the parade square. Enhance the experience with drummers, pipers or soldiers dressed in full regalia. At the Pier 21 National Historic Site, where nearly one million immigrants were welcomed into Canada from 1928 to 1971, the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21’s archival photographs, artifacts and immersive exhibits continue to tell Canada’s immigration story. This beautiful waterfront venue offers several multi-purpose event spaces, the largest of which can host 440 guests for banquets. From fine-dining events and nightclub parties to a lively gathering at a gastropub or an exclusive dinner theatre experience, the Grafton Connor Downtown Complex in the entertainment district has a space for your event. Choose from one of nine unique venues, or do a full buyout of the entire complex for up to 1,500 guests. From May to August, consider these Halifax universities for a comprehensive conference experience, offering accommodation, meeting and convention space and food and beverage services. Saint Mary’s University offers 700 residence beds and a selection of theatres, classrooms and boardrooms for events, with the largest hosting up to 600 attendees. At Dalhousie University, six of their more than 200 event spaces can host over 1,000 guests, and private single and double rooms and suite-style residences with 2,257beds are available and 1,965 private single are available.
