With a dynamic creative community and the revitalization of two of the city’s largest cultural institutions, Calgary is becoming a world-class hub for the arts. Arts Commons, Western Canada’s largest performing arts centre, is modernizing the existing facility and significantly increasing capacity with the addition of a 1,000-seat performance venue. The Glenbow Museum is also reimagining its space, undergoing extensive interior and exterior upgrades, and incorporating inclusive solutions to address physical accessibility barriers and explore methods of experiencing programming in a variety of languages. Admission will also be completely free. Both venues are close to the CTCC, making them ideal for off-site events. Since 1950, the ultimate host city has welcomed visitors with a white cowboy hat. Made locally by Smithbilt Hats, it has become an iconic symbol of Calgary’s friendly, hospitable nature. Incorporating a White Hat Ceremony into your event—where delegates are presented with a white hat and repeat an oath—is an authentic welcoming, connecting them to the local culture and making them feel like honorary Calgarians. Did you know Will and Kate, Oprah, and the Dalai Lama have all been white hatted? Did you know Calgary is investing more than $600 million into arts and culture infrastructure and experiences? THE EVENT Brings together industry experts and innovators to find real- world solutions for meeting the global energy demand. BY THE NUMBERS 30,000+ attendees, including 600 exhibitors, from more than 100 countries. THE VENUE The show has taken place at Stampede Park for the last 55 years, says Nick Samain, senior vice-president, dmg events, North America, so it has a long, proud heritage. As the second-largest event in the city, next to the Stampede, it utilizes almost the entire BMO Centre, including all exhibition halls, conference rooms and two outdoor parking lots. THE EXPERIENCE “The BMO Centre understands how important it is to partner with the organizer,” says Samain, adding, “The team is very open minded and easy to work with.” He also highlights the elevated food and beverage program and the overall level of service from the team at BMO: “They are in sync with the service levels we have at dmg, which is a ‘drop everything’ attitude to helping people.” The Global Energy Show will be one of the first conferences held at the BMO Centre once the expansion is completed in 2024.
