Most ingredients used are sourced locally, including 100% of the MTCC's wine and craft beer, as well as herbs and vegetables harvested from the rooftop chef’s garden, offering From energy effi ciency to food recovery, the MTCC makes it easy for planners to host sustainable events, providing expert guidance with its Planning with Purpose tool kit and a range of built-in green initiatives. With a recent upgrade to high-quality LED lights in the exhibit halls, the MTCC expects to reduce lighting energy use by 50%—cutting its carbon footprint by approximately 944,000 kWh annually. Combined with the South Building’s innovative cooling system, which uses water from Lake Ontario to reduce energy demand, these features help lower the environmental impact of every event. Planners can take sustainability a step further by choosing clean energy. The MTCC will partner with Bullfrog Power to calculate the event’s energy use and offset it by adding renewable electricity to the grid. To help reduce traffi c congestion and CO2 emissions, planners and exhibitors can also use the Voyage Control app to schedule move-in and move-out times, cutting down on vehicle idling and wait times. Additionally, as part of its efforts to reduce waste and give back to the community, the MTCC donates surplus food and event materials—including furnishings and accessories—to local schools and organizations addressing food insecurity and housing instability, such as the Toronto District School Board Student Nutrition Program and Habitat for Humanity.
